Dawning of Light

Dawning of Light CoverFinnegan Hennigan meets his match in spunky Cecilia Druthers, a woman he can barely stand. Cecelia’s opinion of Finn? He’s an oaf and a killjoy. But, opposites can’t resist each other in Dawning of Light by Tami Lund. You’ll love Book 2 of Tami’s hot fantasy series, Lightbearer, a saga about lightbearers and the shifters who hate to love them.

The Lightbearers are a group of magical beings who have lived for five hundred years hidden away in their warded and protected coterie. Now that the princess of the Lightbearers is mated to a shifter, their peaceful lives have been turned upside down.

In this second installment of the Lightbearer Series, shifter Finnegan Hennigan is doing his damnedest to keep lightbearer Cecilia Druthers out of trouble. His job is made all the more difficult by the fact that Cecilia doesn’t want to stay out of trouble.

Despite their mutual annoyance, sparks ignite between this odd couple. As it becomes increasingly more apparent that someone is out to get Cecilia, the flares of attraction become impossible to resist, and soon, Cecilia and Finn tumble into, well, a closet together. And then the bed. And if Finn wants to keep her there, he’s going to need to keep her alive.

Which means figuring out who the hell keeps trying to kill her.

Content Notes: Dawning of Light  contains Hot, Non-sexual Violence, Fantasy, Fairies, Paranormal, Shifters, Suspense

An Author’s Desk: Emma Wyelin

Welcome to Emma Weylin, an author of paranormal romance at Liquid Silver Books. Emma shares her writing home and her first installment on her spicy new series, The Time Walkers.

DeskMy writing area is usually a total mess. I seem to think best when I am surrounded by clutter. I often do other projects while I am writing, like crochet or painting a paper mache box. Somehow doing something creative with my hands opens up the creativity for my writing, too. I am currently editing my next novel Going Under and I am planning out the next few books in the different series I write in.

Bring Me to Life

Being dead sucks, or so Vincent Asher believes. He’s spent the last two hundred years of his death battling vampires because his boss won’t let him kill demons. Known as a force called the Wraith, Vincent has become bored with preventing the apocalypse. When he hopes his boss will give him a more exciting assignment, he gets the shock of his afterlife. He must protect the woman who killed him.

Bryna Wildrose accidentally killed the only man she ever loved. In a self-imposed death sentence, she’s spent the last ten years of her life trying to get herself killed. She never meant to kill Vincent, and the guilt is eating her alive. A vampire gives her a dire warning. The Wraith is coming for her. She can run, or she can let death take her.

Given no choice, Vincent goes back in time to find the one woman he loved more than life itself, but when he expected to torment her for causing his death, he learns nothing is what he believed it to be. Real love never dies, but Vincent’s power might not be enough to keep Bryna alive.

A Visit to Romance Cooks

Today I’m blogging at Romance Cooks about about my recent sizzling hot contemporary release, The Caretaker’s Lady AND sharing my recipe for Bread pudding with bourbon sauce. The resort’s caretaker recommends the  pecan pie and bread pudding for dessert. Cathy Morrow, a famous romance author who is staying at the resort to complete her hot novel, discovers that she might be more interested in the caretaker than dessert. Check out my favorite pecan pie recipe, then visit Romance Cooks for the bread pudding with bourbon sauce recipe, the book blurb, and the steamy seduction excerpt. The choice is yours: pecan pie or bread pudding with bourbon sauce?

SOUTHERN PECAN PIE

Both desserts3 whole eggs
¾ cup granulated sugar
¾ cup light Karo syrup
1 tsp. vanilla
1 Tbl margarine, melted
1 cup pecans
1 deep dish unbaked pie shell

Preheat oven to 425°. Mix eggs on medium. Beat in vanilla, sugar, margarine, and syrup.  Spread pecans on the bottom of the pie. Pour mixture into shell. Bake for ten minutes, lower heat to 350° and bake 45 minutes more or until pie is “set.”

The Blue Ridge Mountains of North Georgia

In a luxurious resort in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Georgia where the trees stand cloaked in fall colors, the apples and pumpkins are ripe for harvest, and pots of apple cider simmer beside the fireplace, a couple in the autumn of their lives surrender to lust and discover love.

FallNGA2For the next few days, I’ll share the beautiful fall scenery of North Georgia which is the location for my erotic contemporary romance from Liquid Silver Books, The Caretaker’s Lady. The first feature is an image of Blue Ridge Mountain in North Georgia with a short excerpt from the book. The play of light and shadow on the fall scenery is magnificent.

John stopped on the path. Cathy halted beside him.

“Close your eyes for a moment while we step onto the overlook.”

She frowned. “That requires a bit of trust.”

He squeezed her hand. “You can always trust me, Cathy.”

“Okay.” She closed her eyes and took his arm as he guided her forward a few feet.

“Open your eyes now.” She heard the excitement in his voice. Then she saw why.

The Blue Ridge Mountains lay before them in their early autumn colors. In places, the clouds obscured the sunlight, creating a chiaroscuro patchwork of brilliant color and shadow in the valleys and on the mountainsides.

“Thank you for sharing this with me, John. It’s magnificent. Pristine, as though people have never walked these mountains.”

Thursday Redux: Author Kimber Vale Visits

Liquid Silver Books author Kimber Vale is this Thursday’s Redux guest. Kimber writes erotic romance of all stripes, from hot hetero to mouthwatering manlove. Find her MF work published under Kimber Vale. Come for the sex. Stay for the storyDividerBar428x25

Hi, everyone! I’m Kimber Vale and I am so happy to be here today to share an old post from my blog (http://www.kimbervale.me). This is slightly revised (because I double-dog dare you to go back and reread something you wrote two years ago and not change a thing. Impossible!), and the original was posted on June, 15th 2012.

Who Here has Screwed the Pooch?

I’m wondering about weird phrases today.

It’s raining cats and dogs. Or maybe it’s colder than a witch’s titty. Oh, how the worm has turned, probably because it was a piece of cake.

What got me thinking of these odd sayings, you ask? Well, for some reason, “screwed the pooch” recently came up in conversation and I got stuck analyzing it:

How is the term “screwed the pooch” at all socially acceptable? Who started it and why didn’t the first person to use it get slammed by everyone within hearing distance? It just doesn’t make sense. Why? For the love of Pete, WHY?!

As an author, I know that basically all publishers forbid animal love. While the erotica industry is largely accepting of most forms of snoo-snoo, bestiality is pretty much a standard no-go everywhere you look. People getting kinky with pets? Hard stop. With good reason, I might add.

I do love to pet my pussy, don’t get me wrong, but I’ve never “screwed the pooch.” I won’t even allow a dog to lick me, to be honest. Grosses me out. I know damn well where that tongue’s been and I don’t want any part of it.

And they say the human mouth is the dirtiest. My personal jury is still out on that. I’ll let you know the final verdict once the zombocalypse hits.

So, what other asinine phrases can you think of? I revel in imagining “great balls of fire,” and “for the love of Pete,” especially since I know a very conservative Pete. How about “holy shit?” I can’t help but picture a priest in an outhouse for some reason. These are all well-known, oft-used expressions. But why?

What if we change it up the next time we’re in pleasant company? Will the revised versions have the same effect? Are my new phrases better or worse?

My best buddy just messed up royally, but I say, “Oh, man! You just made sweet love to a dog!”

“Huge flaming testicles! That kid is driving me insane!”

“Oh, for the sake of being largely enamored with my husband’s unattractive coworker.”

“Well, priest in an outhouse, this is a garbage poker hand.”

Actually, I could get on board with the flaming testicles. But really, where the hell do we come up with this excrement? The English language is walnuts. Someone pass me the flippin’ raisins ’cause I’m gonna start mixing it up in everyday speech just to see if I can start some new idiotic idioms.

Hard Act to Follow

An MM Contemporary Romance from Liquid Silver Books (August, 2014)

Note: Hard Act to Follow is book three of Kimber’s “Shooting Stars” series but is a standalone book. If you like friends-to-lovers, fabulously flamboyant twinks, or big, burly overprotective buddies, this could be the book for you.

hardacttofollowKyrie is an actor with a physical aversion to telling lies, a one-eyed cat, and horrible taste in men. His ex-brother-in-law and best friend, Greg, harbors a secret crush he can’t shake. After denying his feelings for Kyrie for too long, Greg finally gives in to desire one drunken night. Come the morning, the facts get twisted. Kyrie pretends he doesn’t remember a thing—a lie that eats him alive—and Greg can’t stop thinking about how he screwed up the best thing in his life.

Before they can clear the air, Kyrie follows his dreams to New York City, but could he also be running away?

A mistake from Kyrie’s past detonates their silence, and Greg is forced to confront the man he loves. Is their new truth strong enough to support a relationship, or are they doomed to crumble under old fears? Their friendship could evolve into something a million times stronger, but maybe Kyrie’s act is just too hard for Greg to follow.

At the resort, Cathy meets a hot maintenance worker who warms the cool nights. The caretaker’s job at the resort allows billionaire John Murdock to live the life he loves in the Blue Ridge Mountains and keep a centuries-old family vow. When Cathy Morrow arrives at the resort, she lights a fire he’d banked years ago. Will she look beyond his white hair and menial job to appreciate what he offers—passion with the prospect for love?

John was flirting with her. How long had it been since she’d flirted with a handsome man? Way too long. Could she play the game? Perhaps. Did she want to? Hell, yes! “No, but you’re handsome.”

“You think so? Thank you. I’m glad to hear that.”

Damn they were moving fast! “You’re welcome. Why?”

“Because when I proposition you, you won’t be too pissed off if my performance is not up to par. It’s been a while for me too.”

Oh my God! This wasn’t happening. Not to her, at least. It had been so long. “You’re going to proposition me?”

He laid his hand over hers. “Would you like for me to?”

A Writer’s Desk: Annette Mardis

Annette Mardis is the guest author at A Writer’s Desk. She is a journalist and writer of contemporary romance at Liquid Silver Books. Annette offers some insights into writing and the writing process based on her perspective from writing in the newsroom of a newspaper. Annette will also introduce her writing assistant and her story, The Shore Thing, a contemporary romance set in a Florida aquarium, available from Liquid Silver Books (pre-order until September 1st release).

DividerBar428x25

Writing assistantThanks, Rita, for hosting me on your blog. I’d like to share a valuable lesson I learned more than thirty years ago at a convention for high school journalists. It was simple advice, but it has stayed with me all this time.

Peggy Peterman, a longtime features writer for the then-St. Petersburg Times, gave a talk on the realities of making a living as a newspaper writer. It doesn’t matter how you feel on a given day, she told her rapt audience, because deadlines don’t care if you’re sick, tired, unmotivated, restless, bored, whatever. Put it aside and get your work done because the newspaper and its readers are counting on you.

I went on to work in the newspaper business for more than three decades, and my resolve to adhere to Ms. Peterman’s advice was sorely tested on many occasions. But the discipline I developed over those years has stood me in good stead as I strive to build a second career as a novelist.

Newspaper offices are about as calm and quiet as train stations, and if you can concentrate in a newsroom, you can concentrate anywhere. I write my books at home, where I’m often interrupted by my barking dogs, Shelby (pictured) and Cocoa, and a screeching pet parrot named Ozzie.

I’ve read a lot about writers finding their muse and creating the proper environment to spur their creativity. If psyching yourself up and locking yourself away in a quiet room is what you need to get the job done, then by all means, do it.

But I have an easier solution, stolen from an effective advertising campaign for Nike: Just do it.

The only surefire way to break through writer’s block is to sit down and write. Having trouble with a sentence, a paragraph, a chapter? Type something on your computer screen, even if you’re not happy with it. Just getting your fingers moving on the keys often will help break the logjam in your brain. You can always return to it later and rewrite.

Sometimes, just the act of getting away from the computer for a bit — to visit the bathroom, get a drink, fix a snack, read a few pages of another book, take a walk, anything — can help unlock your thoughts, too.

Another very effective remedy, at least for me, is to sleep on it. Sometimes this makes for a frustrating, insomnia-filled night, but very often I’m able to envision a scene or an entire plot line as I’m lying in bed. Fantasizing about your characters helps bring them to life and often leads me in directions I’d never thought of going otherwise.

Never forget that writing is hard work, but it doesn’t have to be painful. Let someone else play the part of the tortured scribe. Enjoying your vocation is a lot more fulfilling.

ABOUT THE SHORE THING

On Monday, Sept. 1, Liquid Silver Books will release my new contemporary romance novel, The Shore Thing. It’s the first book in a series set in the fictional west-central Florida beach town of Gulf Shore, where you’ll feel sugary white sand between your toes, the warm sun on your shoulders, and a sea breeze ruffling your hair.

You’ll meet swoon-worthy alpha males who aren’t embarrassed to cuddle a rescued baby dolphin in their muscular arms, and accomplished women looking for an equal partner who thinks that smart is sexy.

You’ll get up close and personal with sea life, join the “snipe and gripe” club for girls’ nights out, and fall in love with a talking parrot who acts like a little boy in a bird suit.  You’ll go behind-the-scenes at the local aquarium and out to the beach to rescue marine animals in distress. And once you visit Gulf Shore, you just may find yourself wishing you could stay.

 The Shore Thing

A Contemporary Romance from Liquid Silver Books (Sep 2014)

Danielle “Dani” Davidson vows to just say no to workplace romances after her first post-college job is soured by a messy breakup with a manipulative coworker at a fish hatchery. That’s just one reason she doesn’t trust any man with her heart, let alone one who swims with sharks for a living. So why can’t she get cameraman Evan Sanders out of her mind?         Evan is twice shy, too, after an alluring but self-absorbed colleague at Gulf Shore Aquarium takes a bite out of his heart. Thought he’s dead set against dating anyone else he works with, he’s intrigued by Dani’s shyness and tempted by her intelligence and low-key sexiness.

Dani leads tours and educates guests, and Evan is the chief photographer/videographer at the aquarium and marine animal hospital in Gulf Shore. Their attraction smolders until an unfortunate encounter with a stingray sends Dani to the emergency room, and Evan steps up to help her through her recovery.

The two also bond over the rescue of an orphaned baby dolphin. But will Evan’s vindictive ex-lover, his career ambitions, and Dani’s inhibitions tear the young lovers apart?
