An Early History of the Massachusetts Bay Colony

The Massachusetts Bay Company was established in 1628. John Endecott and a small company of settlers sailed to Massachusetts Bay not long after acquiring the grant.  In 1629 the company acquired a royal charter to guarantee its land claims, and elected Endecott as the first colonial governor.  Back in England, the Company merged its corporate and colonial administration so that the charter could be removed to the colony. During the 1630s about 20,000 people migrated to the colony and the colony became very prosperous.
