Wednesday’s Sunset with Her Teddy Bare

Believe it or not there are places in the United States without – or with only minimal – internet access. Unfortunately I’ll be in one of them for the next week – 10 days. Throughout the week, I’m leaving bits of an excerpt of a scene where Teddy and Diana (from Her Teddy Bare – my first erotic romance) share a sunset. I plan to share some inspiring sunsets beginning Saturday. Enjoy!! Click the pic to buy (only $.99) or read an XXcerpt.

Diana sat in silence with Teddy for more than an hour enjoying the sunset and the approach of darkness. Once she’d gotten Teddy off his knees and in a chair beside her, he’d been great company. Neither of them spoke a word, but they’d shared the beauty of the moment. She appreciated that Teddy was comfortable with silence—unlike Franklin who engaged in constant conversation, usually about himself.

When she left the terrace to avoid the bugs beginning to swarm, Teddy followed her inside and pulled the thin drapes across the openings to the terrace. She wished him good night and went into the bathroom. As she got ready for bed, she admitted she’d enjoyed his company and even looked forward to the start of her fantasy. When she returned to the bedroom, wearing the gown over a shamelessly sheer black teddy, Teddy stood waiting.

“Thank you for everything, Teddy. I must say this day tops my lifetime list for interesting and unusual.”

“Thank you, Mistress. The pleasure was mine.” He waited expectantly.

“I look forward to tomorrow.” “As do I, Mistress.” He didn’t budge

“You are dismissed for the day, Teddy. I’ll see you in the morning.” “Yes, Mistress.” He turned to leave. “Teddy.”

He stopped but didn’t turn around. The last rays of the setting sun outlined his body. The artist that fell silent last year emerged to appreciate the beauty of Teddy’s body silhouetted against the waning light.

Her Teddy Bare (a light BDSM e-book with a chuckle) is a Quick Read of the Aphrodite’s Island series where guests “experience their most secret dreams and fondest fantasies.” Her Teddy Bare is available from Carnal Passions, the erotic romance imprint of Champagne Book Group. An Author’s Desk: Elizabeth Fountain

Elizabeth Fountain is the guest author at today’s An Author’s Desk. Liz writes science fiction and fantasy. Her debut novel, An Alien’s Guide to World Domination, is a new release from BURST! Books, the scifi/fantasy imprint of Champagne Book Group. Elizabeth left a demanding job as a university administrator in Seattle to move to the small town of Ellensburg, Washington, and pursue her dream of writing novels. Her first book was five years in the making, and offered lots of opportunities to give up along the way; that might be why it’s a tale of people, aliens, and dogs who face the impossible, and do it anyway.

Liz has three more novels in progress. She takes breaks from writing to teach university courses, spend time with family and friends, and take long walks while leaning into the diabolical Kittitas valley wind. She holds degrees in philosophy, psychology, and leadership, which contribute to a gently humorous view of humanity well suited to tales of aliens and angels, love and death, friendship and dogs. Let’s check out Liz’s desk.

FountainAuthorsDesk2Moving from a house in Seattle to a small apartment in Ellensburg, Washington – a town of about 20, 000 people in the heart of the state – presented some challenges in terms of creating a space for writing. Fortunately, my apartment is just one block away from the Ellensburg Public Library. The library has semi-private carrels, plugs for my laptop, free wireless connections, comfy chairs when I need them, and, of course, books. It’s wonderful to write surrounded by so many of the best books ever written. I feel inspiration leaking out of their covers and sometimes, if it’s very quiet, it seems I can almost hear them whispering their best lines to me.

The Ellensburg Public Library, like public libraries all over this country, provides a free, clean, warm-in-winter, cool-in-summer, friendly place to work, read, or just be. I couldn’t resist the chance to sing the praises of public libraries and to thank the folks at mine for all they contribute to our communities. I also write at home, usually in bed, with my laptop propped on a pillow, and some good music on my iPod (or a baseball game on the radio).

I am a binge writer – I write in waves rather than routines. A few days will go by with very little writing at all; then I start, and soon enough I’m lost in the world of story creation for hours at a time. I’ve tried writing first thing in the morning when my mind is fresh, and writing at the end of the day after I’ve taken care of all the other demands on my time. Either can work just fine if the inspiration is there. I keep thinking I need to be more disciplined and establish a real writing regimen; maybe one day I’ll get there. In the meantime I adore riding the waves of creativity as far as they will go.

An Alien’s Guide to World Domination

Click to read excerpt/buyLouise Armstrong Holliday is the last person on Earth you’d expect to save the human race. But when she uncovers proof that her boss is an alien the color of lime Jell-O ™ gone horribly wrong, and is at the center of a plot to destroy humanity, Louie decides to do exactly that. She begins a journey from her company’s suburban Seattle office park to the old cities and castles of Eastern Europe. Along the way, Louie is attacked by flying books, overly-sensitive bat-crow monsters, and her own self-doubts. She must learn the truth about her closest friend, stand up to her boss, confront her oldest enemy, and make peace with her Aunt Emma, who annoys her in the way only true family can. She also has to rely on Buddy, the little blind mini-Schnauzer who saves her life twice – and really is from Mars.

Liz’s Note: I like to say this book is for anyone who’s ever looked at her boss and thought: you must be from another planet. In other words, everyone. Maybe that’s why, in its first month of release, I’ve had so many readers contact me claiming to know who the characters “really” are – because we all know what it’s like to feel surrounded by aliens, or to feel we are the ones who are lost in a strange world. One of my favorite reader responses appeared in a review of the book on Amazon.com: “By the end of the story, you are thinking ‘perhaps _____ is an alien, too.’” I love it!

An Author’s Desk: Dani Collins

Dani Collins is my guest today at An Author’s Desk. Whenever I ask for an author bio, most writers are too modest to boast, so I must explore on my own. Dani is an RWA Golden Heart Finalist and a Romantic Times American Title Finalist, both of which are really BIG deals. She writes both fantasy and contemporary and has had a very busy year in both. Her fantasy, The Healer, is definitely on my TBR list.

DaniDesk2Dani Collins spent two decades submitting to every publisher with a transom while holding down a day job and raising a family with her high school sweetheart.

Once The Call finally came, Dani decided to become an overnight success by going to contract on The Healer, an epic fantasy romance, with Champagne Books five weeks after signing with Mills & Boon. For good measure, she chose to indie-publish her romantic comedy, Hustled To The Altar at the same time.

Readers will quickly realize that while her stories span very different genres, she always delivers alpha-male heroes squaring off with spirited heroines in a deeply emotional, unforgettable romance.

Dani has always loved seeing a map in the front of a fantasy book. She hand sketched one for The Healer when she was plotting, then recently had it professionally illustrated. Readers can download it here along with a Reading Guide and a Character Guide.

The Healer

Click Cover to BuyA heroic act gone wrong…

Once oppressed by the Shote people, the Kerfs only want peace, but unrest brews as Shotes expand into the Kerf’s hard won territory. Vaun, a Kerf General, is patrolling the border lands when he saves a Kerf captive about to be raped—then discovers she’s not Kerf at all.

Survival in the balance…

Athadia is Alvian, one of the mysterious healers driven out of Kerfdom by Vaun’s ancestors. Vaun’s first touch tells her he’s a Latent, not as strong as a full-blooded Alvian, but a possible mate. If she could bring herself to lie with a man again, even a superstitious half-blood Kerf, she could fulfill her vows and save her dwindling race.

Hope at too high a cost…

Athadia’s touch promises a kind of healing that has eluded Vaun all his life, but he has broken the Shote treaty and started the war he was meant to avert. His King expects him to kill Athadia to restore peace…

He can’t bring himself to do it.

An Author’s Desk: Author Audra Middleton & a Giveaway

Please welcome Audra Middleton who is the featured guest today at An Author’s Desk. You may remember Audra from her guest spot in December at my Holiday Special when she shared her recipe for that decadent Peaches ‘n Cream Cheesecake. Audra returns as a published author with a blog tour behind her and five, four-star reviews for Watcher. Champagne/Burst Books has some of the nicest book covers in the business, but they outdid themselves with Watcher,  one of my all-time favorites. Loved her world-building and subtle humor in Watcher. Can’t wait to read The Hitchhiker, her humorous paranormal thriller coming out from Champagne/Burst in November.  For now, let’s check out Audra’s desk.

DividerJ2

IMG_2277I wrote Watcher on the ‘family’ computer at the desk in my kitchen, surrounded by clutter, inspirational quotes (Mother Theresa & Edgar Allen Poe) and pictures (my kids & their art), with a view of my front driveway and the kids’ playhouse out the kitchen door.  My youngest has since discovered the joy of computers, and changing their settings, so I now write strictly from my own laptop in my Lazyboy recliner in the living room.  We have a living/dining/kitchen great room, so from this perch I can keep an eye on everyone in the area in my peripheral vision as I write.  I mostly sit down to write in short spurts throughout the day, in between laundry, chauffeuring, and refereeing of children.  It doesn’t have to be quiet, and rarely is.  I write over video game ruckus, rough-housing mayhem, dishwasher rumbling, you name it.  But I don’t just write at my computer; I’m writing all the time, playing out scenes in my head.  Some people call that daydreaming, but I call that work.  I love my job.

Watcher

young woman styled as a forest nymph, studio shotWar threatens to destroy the world of Anthelion unless the holy man, Goran, can solve his prophecy riddle. For every clue he finds, another obstacle surfaces. An orphan girl, Watcher, becomes his responsibility. As if parenthood itself isn’t daunting enough, she keeps a bear for a pet and transforms into her forest surroundings to avoid socialization. Hope momentarily emerges when Goran finds Benaiah, the Chosen Son of the prophecy. Only he soon discovers Benaiah is a social pariah on the verge of embracing darkness.

When Benaiah and Watcher unexpectedly meet, the two outsiders find in each other a sense of belonging they’ve never known.  Now their emerging love promises to bring about the same war Goran is struggling to prevent.

Thanks for stopping by, Audra. You’re welcome any time, especially when you bring treats like Watcher or another delicious recipe.

Thanks so much for having me, Rita!  I’d like to giveaway a copy of my ebook, Watcher, to one commenter today.  So leave a comment and tell me what’s on your desk for a chance to win.

An Author’s Desk: Pippa Jay

British Scifi author Pippa Jay visits today. Pippa shares a pic of her writing area, info about her writing circumstances, and the blurb and pic of her latest release, Keir, from Lyrical Press. Her next novel, Gethyon, is scheduled for release in June, 2013 by Champagne Book Group.

WP_000457My desk sits in the corner of our back room and gets the sun for most of the day. So even in winter, if the sun is out, it’s the warmest, brightest place to be. I like to have pictures up on the wall relating to my current project as visual incentive – usually a mocked-up cover. Music is a must, and usually chosen to fit the mood of the story. Now all three of my little monsters are at full time school, I don’t have to do any early mornings to get my quiet time and gives me the luxury of planning out my day around writing, social media (ahem, aka chatting on Twitter) and the glorious household chores (meh!). Right now I’m waiting to hear on two submissions, working on a scifi short for a recent anthology call, and polishing up a steampunk superhero romance I drafted during CampNaNoWriMo last August.

Outcast. Cursed. Dying. Is Keir beyond redemption?

For Keirlan de Corizi–the legendary ‘Blue Demon’ of Adalucien–death seems the only escape from a world where his discolored skin marks him as an oddity and condemns him to life as a pariah. But salvation comes in an unexpected guise: Tarquin Secker, a young woman who can travel the stars with a wave of her hand.

But Quin has secrets of her own. She’s spent eternity searching through space and time with a strange band of companions at her back. Defying her friends’ counsel, Quin risks her apparent immortality to save Keir. She offers him sanctuary and a new life on her home world, Lyagnius.

When Keir mistakenly unleashes his dormant alien powers and earns instant exile from Quin’s home world, will she risk everything to stand by him again?

An Author’s Desk: January Bain

Jan2Have you ever wondered how and where an author writes? With “An Author’s Desk,” my new Sunday feature, we take a peek at where some of our favorite authors write those books we love. My first guest at “An Author’s Desk” is January Bain. January is the author of the “Forever” series published by Champagne Book Group.

IMG_1234January has two writing areas. She writes during her spare time at school and at home. Take a look at that magnificent view out her window at home. With a view of twenty acres of Jack pines and deer visiting often, I can’t imagine how she manages to write anything at all.

forever%20clan%20ecover-250x250 CroppedFollowing the impressive Forever Man and Forever Woman in the Forever series. January’s Forever Clan was released last week.

Sunday Rose’s soul mate is a vampire. If that isn’t difficult enough to deal with, she’s pregnant with a child that prophecy states can either help or destroy the vampire race. And there are those that fear either outcome. If she is to protect her child from those who would exploit the prophecy, she must awaken unknown abilities and call upon her guardian angels to buy the time necessary to get her family to safe harbor.
