Mulligan Stew

This is from a very old recipe. There are not a lot of directions, but it makes an easy meal in a pot.

1/2 cup each of diced onions, carrots, celery, and turnip
4 potatoes quartered
Add to 1/8 lb salt pork
2 pounds venison, lamb or beef cut in small pieces and cooked 1 hour in 1 pint of water with 1 teaspoon salt and ¼ tsp. Pepper

Cook all together for one hour Dumplings can be added. Canned biscuits can make a nice dumpling or try this: in a large mixing bowl beat together one egg and ¼ milk. Add 1 ¼ C flour, 1 tsp salt and 1 ½  tsp baking powder and mix all together. Cut 2 Tbl butter into the flour mixture until crumbly. Divide into 6 large spoonfuls and drop into stew. Cover and cook ten minutes.
