Just received my copy of editor/author Don McNair’s new book, Editor Proof Your Writing: 21 Steps to the Clear Prose Publishers and Agents Crave. Don has finally published a book based on his dynamite workshops. Unlike some workshops/books that deal in generalities, McNair offers very specific steps to improving your writing. Go from foggy writing that drives editors crazy to clear prose that will have your editor smiling. NO, it’s not a grammar book, it’s all about writing. It’s the kind of book you read with paper and pen beside you for notes. I still have the notepad I started during my first workshop with him. After I finish a story, I pull out the notepad and FIND all the words that I know I overuse and recheck them. I also edit out my overused passive voice, clear out the -ly words, and edit those foggy phrases. More later.
Editor Proof Your Writing will be a valuable asset to the libraries of published or soon-to-be-published authors. I would recommend the soft cover book for making notes and highlighting. It’s on sale now at Amazon for $10.95. Click the cover to buy.
Tomorrow, Countdown to my release. Rita Bay
